no, most people want an open window notifier! It is only by our doings that some people start to realize there is no such thing as a windows open notifier. But still most people do not know this and want a window open notifier, not an "open session notifier".

No indeed..., unless the thing you once had only existed because a certain developper was beeping tired of all the whining of the people because he had removed it in his plugin once it wasn't realiable anymore. People couldn't accepted that it didn't work anymore and that was the one and only reason why you had such a thing in the past (after it was prooven it didn't work anymore).

No, that's actually called a fact.

No developper here apparently wants to create such an open window notifier or even an open session notifier as all developpers here know it will be misinterpreted anyways, and the whole misconception starts over again, just as a couple of years ago.

If you still want it, I'd suggest to make it yourself....

Although I didn't fully agreed with what has been done here, it clearly prooves a few things:

1) People think they know something about something, while in fact they don't know a thing. So how are they even going to 'know' what a false notification is or what a good one is? Because they say they can? Sorry, I don't believe this for one bit.

2) Even after posting big threads, warnings, explanations on several forums (thus I'm not only talking about the Plus! forums, but about every messenger related forum in existance) many people still believe in such open window notifiers.

3) People will too often post "wow thanks, works perfectly" while they didn't tested it at all (happens in A LOT of other threads too btw, but it's hard to proof of course).

All of "us" who already where serious into development back then when the notifiers actually did work, have experienced first-hand that educating people on this subject is NOT easy at all. In fact, this recent upspring of this issue has prooven that once again. If it was 'easy' to convince people about this, nobody would even think about asking for a open window notifier anymore. If it was 'easy' we wouldn't be here discussion this...

What do you think I tried to do in that other thread? But noooooooo, if someone even tries to educate people and say why something doesn't work, all of you start calling them a lier, full of BS and what not... yeah, sure it's easy....

I'm not laughing at this, nor was this script made with my knowledge or even with the slithest suggestion from my side! I have absolutely nothing todo with this... Who is being biased you said?....

So in the end: If you want it, make it yourself or find someone who wants to spend time in making it for you. Lots of info about packet sniffing on various messenger related forums, including source code, etc...

And before you repeat yourself, let me do it for you:
"For the love of everything that's secret, I'll shut up now"....

The biggest problem for ppl is the name. It was called a windows open notifier and no mather what you tell ppl. At the end of the day (s)he opens preferences and sees WON on it. There will always be dummies. I think it's wrong to remove such a wanted feature and it could be dealt with in another way.

My biggest problem with the info given about WON is that everyone sais it's random. It is not. There are reasons why it gets triggerd. Multiple reasons.

Sorry but I was going from what was told on page 5.

Creating a packetsniffer is not easy. Not even for a real coder. Biggest problem is that you have to use other ppl's huge sdk's only to filter out a port and value. Unless you create it yourself from scratch but I ain't even going there.
It would be so much easier if one of the devs made it because they already know what and where.
I am looking at it tho. Problem is that I'm an engineer and not a programmer. I can get my stuff but getting it in a compact program is a real challenge.

Fact is: this notifies you when a window is opened.

Therefor it has every right in being called "open windows notification".

Although it does throw a random notification every 123.456 seconds.

Also, let me start you in the right direction.

VB6 MSN Messenger Packet Sniffer:

http://pscode.com/vb/scripts/ShowCode.asp?txtCodeId=53191&lngWId=1

What you are looking for:
the "RNG" packet. This is sent when you are invited to the switchboard.

it looks like:
quote:
<<< RNG 11752013 207.46.108.38:1863 CKI 849102291.520491113 example@passport.com Example%20Name\r\n

    *  The first parameter is the session ID of the new switchboard session. Every switchboard session has a unique ID, and each principal invited will use the same session ID. You will need this for authenticating with the switchboard.
    * The second parameter is the colon-delimited string for the address and port (has always been 1863) of the switchboard.
    * The third parameter specifies the type of authentication, which should always be CKI.
    * The fourth parameter is an authentication string that you will need when authenticating with the switchboard.
    * The fifth and sixth parameters are respectively the account name and the URL-encoded display name of the principal that invited you to the switchboard session.

More Info: http://msnpiki.msnfanatic.com/index.php/Switchboa...d_to_a_Switchboard

Basically you could just search for this packet, then raise a toast saying the 4th parameter has started a conversation with you.

good luck

If i'm wrong you tell me where I'm wrong. Otherwise you're just jumping the bandwagon.
I do know what I am talking about. Trust me, I had to learn about the whole 'open, closed' session when I was modding at the StuffPlug forum so as to tell people how it wasn't accurate.

Sorry Cookie ;)

RE: [Release] Open Window Notification
here is my two cents

I read at several forums (here & stuffplug) that windows open notifier is not reliable.. ok I got it but the main question is do we need a a reliable WON?

think this

a friend is going to send you a message so he opens a window
--- there comes the WON : xxx has opened a conversation
then after a few seconds later your friend says "hello"

when we are going to get the message a few seconds later, do we really need to get notified ? what's the point?

WON gave us "not reliable" notifications when somebody looked to our contact card etc. Did anybody thought that this is what people actually wants? I don't care about getting a notification about somebody is going to send me a message a few seconds later , I wonder who is checking my contact card, my space, my display picture, my personal message etc... Actually what all these people want is what the developers call "not reliable" notifications.

Here is an idea let's change the name from "Open Window Notification" to "Whose checking you out" and make everyone happy.

RE: [Release] Open Window Notification
or.
or
OR!
leave it the same and let the n00bs be notified of an offline contact opening a convo with them every 123.456 seconds and lett them leave retarted offline msgs, like: "HA! u are appearing offline"... eventually that person will get sick of the twit and block and delete them.. then, then, THEN they will have NO contacts to open thier window!

it does not work!
call it a "Fake open window notifier" and twits will still download it. i say, dont respond to any more posts requesting this option. let them eagerly await a response and end up starting another thread titled "forum broken?"... the feature is GONE/Unreliable and annoying, as posted and edited out before, add me to msn and open my window as many bloody times as u want, or in turn ill open yours and send a message saying i opened it.*-)

oh and thanks for the - rep points... Much Appreciated UTI and Methos. Fucking Twits!

One problem is with the introduction of windows live messenger, you can view display pictures in the conversation window. So when you were to come online you could possibly get a toast for every contact on your list saying they have opened a conversation with you.

1. i am stupide not to read the last page entirly before downloading

2. it is not working right at all, thanks to the developers, nice idea but for this one doesnt work, too bad, as i said, thanks anyway!

3. how do i get it off?

4. a notifier is important so you can see when your friends open a conversation just to see your picture!;) so back to 7.5?
