I'm using windows Live Messenger 8.1 and I unchecked new email alertsound from the WLM's options and Messenger Plus! didn't play that sound when she was notifying me for a new mail on one of my pop3 accounts. So it seems, Messenger Plus! depends on Windows Live Messenger for mail notification alert sounds.

Apparently New Mail must be checked. After I checked it and Messenger Plus! Live checked, I heard the Sound.
