O.P. Instant Messaging Address
Messenger will not allow me to enter any contacts.

Every entry is rejected with a Warning message that the Instant Message Address is invalid.

I am putting in my contact's normal Email address.

Is this correct ?

If not, how do I get around this problem ?

Thanks, Michael.

RE: Instant Messaging Address
It has to be an email address thats assoicated with their Passport Account.

http://www.passport.net/

Not just, one of their address's that they use. If its an address that is Assoicated with a Passport they have, then... I don't know, something could be up on the servers end, or you might need to Repair Messenger...

Thanks for the reply.
But then this raises a new problem.
Just how do I go about setting up my contact list ?
Do they have to register first ?
Is there any way to set up a new contact and utilise the MSN feature of sending them a notification, if they haven't registered ?

Yes, you just type the e-mail address in the 'Instant Message Address' and click Save.

You could try adding a script, Quick Contact Adder, which let's you type /addcontact EMAILADDRESS@EXAMPLE.COM in conversation and it adds the contact.

Sorry, are we going around in a circle here ?

That's exactly what I did do and the result was a Warning message from Messenger that it could not register my new contact as the Instant Message Address was invalid.

Now I'm not sure what I should be doing.

I am a new MSN Messenger subscriber and I am trying to tell my friends and family to get registered so that I can open Video sessions with them. They are probably not yet registered themselves.

Ask them to go to http://www.passport.net/ and register a msn hotmail e-mail address. Then add them at that e-mail address

ask them to register at passport.net .. using whatever email address they currently use, it doesn't have to be hotmail... but, web based email addresses are better for registering with because thos address's are unlikely to change.

if they use hotmail already, ask them to sign up using their hotmail address :) if they use gmail .. ask them to sign up using their gmail address.

Thanks folks. I think I get it now. First of all my friends and family register, then I add them to my contact list.

All help and assistance gratefully received. Bye, Mike.

They're just as likely to change as any other.
