O.P. Overwritten word document - Help!
I think my work has been overwritten. It was an essay. I thought it was saved in My Documents > Homework, but then my friend sent me their essay (through WLM) and the file name is exactly the same and maybe my work was in My Received Files and it's been overwritten?

So I am really.. really.. really.. f00ked.

And.. I really need someone to come to my rescue.
It was on Microsoft Word.
It has been overwritten because I went on recent documents and only the 'new' one is there and I've done multiple searched, it's definitely not there.
I haven't restarted my computer since.
I saved it before it was overwritten.
Unfortunately I closed my work before I opened the one my friend sent me.

Any help :'(

Edit: Done a bit of Googling, looks like I can't get it back :( all that work, damn! :(

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm  90 % certain that when your work was saved on My Received Files and you downloaded a new one with the same name, your computer will put an "(1)" at the end of your new file...
My suggestion: Try to use the Windows's search, maybe you've saved it in a wrong place...

The essay is about the movie Psycho.

There's only Psycho Essay.doc ... :(

I searched for files with the word "Psycho" in the file and it wasn't found. :( Done lots of searches.. I'll continue but don't think it's gonig to help :(

RE: Overwritten word document - Help!
Hey, looking the net, I found this

The most important in this link, I wroted donw:

Question: "Is it possible to restore a original file if it has been overwritten with a file of the same name but different size??"

One of the answers: "It is not possible without professional help, but if you were using Word, you should find a series of temp files on your HDD and if you sort them by date, you may find a copy of your old file from the last time you modified it. I have twice recently recovered files like this, one on the same day, but another that was several weeks old. (Oh joy :D)

Do a file search for *.tmp and open each one that fits in your date range. I usually use ZTree for this because it lets you view the file contents then save with a doc suffix but you can achieve the same outcome in Explorer, it just takes longer. Good luck!"

I hope this can help you (Y)
Good luck!!!
;)

Sorry for not helping you, but I don't have more ideas...
Maybe someone can help you more than me...

And don't forget that you still have your budy's file to make a copy research into it :P:P:P

Edit: If you can, try to do it again, using what you remember that you wrote before...

Anyway: Good Luck!!! (Y)
