O.P. Direct X help!
I need help with my friends computer we have tried to install Direct X 9.0 and it seemed to have worked but when we put in a game that uses direct x it pops up with this message.
"Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the maufacturer. The application will now terminate"
Can anyone help as I have tried and failed lol. Thanks in advance.

This may sound somewhat confusing, but the fact you've been able to install DirectX 9.0 software does not necessarily mean the graphics hardware is "DirectX 9.0 compatible".  For software, it is simply the version and it will always fall back and work with older graphics cards; for hardware, it is a specification of minimum required features the graphics chipset must implement.

There could be some correctable software problem here, but I would suggest that you begin by finding out what the graphics card is and whether it meets the minimum requirements of the game in question -- it is most likely inadequate.

It has worked before but now it won't work and I don't know why. So the graphics card should be compatible.

In that case, try to download and (re)install the latest driver for the graphics card.

How do you find the version of the graphics card? According to my backup disk it's a "Radean ATI 9xxx". Looking on the driver site for Radeon there are many versions of 9xxx - 9000, 9200, 9300 etc. If I install any of these will it cause a problem? Thanks

Run dxdiag again and look at the display tab.  If that doesn't tell you what it is (because we may be having some problem), you can also look at the Device Manager.

Radeon drivers are universal and the choice (despite the long list of cards) will ultimately take you to one of two downloads.  There are two because the most recent Catalyst driver dropped support for some older cards -- that package supports all Radeon chipsets from 9500 up.

I am fairly certain the other package supports everything below X-series, so if you can't figure out what you have, choose 9250 and it should work fine.
