O.P. can't log in with my e-mail address
hi everybody~
I searched through the forums and stuff but couldn't find anything taht was helpful for my problem.
However.. I have live messenger installed on my computer since its release and was very satisfied with it. But last week-end it suddenly went offline with no reason and since that I can't log-in with my old e-mail address anymore. So I looked into the helpcenter and tried everything to fix the problem. I even uninsatlled and then re-installed the messenger.. nothing. Strange is that I can log-in with my friends' e-mail addresses and with my web.de address but not with my hotmail-address.. can anyone help me please? ~~

thanks in advance. have a nice day =)

Try importing the attached reg file. This is reset the handshaking cache. If you tried to login during a WLM downtime it is possible that this cache has been corrupted.

Another option is to delete the Application Data located at:

code:
%APPDATA%\Microsoft\MSN Messenger

(You can type this in the address bar and will be redirected to the proper directory).

Then delete all the subfolders.

Please note that you will lose all your custom content.

.zip File Attachment: deletehandshakingcache.zip (269 bytes)
This file has been downloaded 171 time(s).

If you are running Windows Live Messenger have a go at the following:

Part of your Messenger client cache may be corrupted.

To attempt to fix, close down Messenger if it's running. Click Start > Run, and type:
%userprofile%\contacts
<enter>

If nothing appears in the folder, click the Tools > Options >Viewtab, click 'Show hidden files or folders' and click OK. Once youareable to see the folders, right-click the one that corresponds toyourPassport and choose Delete.

Next, click Start > Run, and type:
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts
<enter>
Remove the corresponding folder again in this folder.

Restart Messenger and try signing in again.
I gave the same advice to a friend last night who had similar symptoms to you and it worked.  Just so you know, it just clears your contact cache so you have to download it from the messenger serves again.
