O.P. DFI boards compatible with Windows Vista?
So im having difficulties installing Windows Vista Enterprise Edition. The computer freezes when completing the installation. It can't be GeForce FX 5200 causing the problem because this one seems to be fully supported. However, DFI pt800-al motherboard seems to be less supported, although winmatrix says that all DFI boards are supported. Then again, another source doesn't say a word about support for DFI.

So... is there any DFI board owner experiencing problems with Vista?

Hey rix,

I don't posess any knowledge of that motherboard, but I can assure you that there are users who have installed Vista in a DFI board with no problems at all.

I find it awkward that motherboards don't work with Vista.. I mean, driver issue is one thing but hardware incompability is totally another..
Maybe you ran into some one-of-a-kind case.. Try getting support from DFI, in the meanwhile, I'll try to find anything that can help you.

On a second notice, that graphics card does look odd to run Vista, I had one myself.. Are you sure it's capable of rendering Vista's eyecandy? What about other hardware, what are you using?

:p

Hm, im getting confused over graphics card again. One source (winmatrix) says that FX 5200 on AGP IS compatible with Vista. The other source (iexbeta.com) claims that only FX 5200 on PCI Express is supported. And here's why i can only suppose real cause of the problem.

Actually there might be another case, but i wouldn't talk about it now. Im going to test for it tomorrow. :P

Oh, and no boot up after restart (when Vista is partly installed) also hints to graphics gard problem. If i only could test some other card..

I'm pretty sure the AGP version of it won't run Vista Aero (and hardly will the PCI-Express one)..

See :

This is Aero, this is Basic and this is Classic

Anyhow that shouldn't be the reason for not finishing the instalation..

What's the other reason?:D I'm curious dude lol

The other reason was the quality of the cd. I got a new one now and by now i have properly managed to install Vista completely. I also plugged monitor to regular vga (it was using DVI before), so this could have been one cause also.

Anyway, FX 5200 (and DFI motherboard) seems to be working perfectly. :)
