O.P. forgotten password.
this is one of those YAYEE MUM moments.

windows start up screen; three login names to choose from.

maxine: limited account
alex: limited account
MUM: ADMINISTRATOR; forgets her password after newly changing it.

long story short, i use mums "section" and no one can login.

i know there is a way around the password. ive seen it done by my mums, friends, husband. but he's working in japan at the moment.

HELP ME :(

would be greatly loved forever and i'll "buy" you a beer, or beverage of your choice, internet style

ash.

thank you hunny

i shall go try try try now!

and report back with any failures

NOT THAT THERE WILL BE ANY!

love.

RE: forgotten password.
Not entirely sure if this will work.

XP administrator account is hidden by default.

Way to access this account is by going thru safe mode.

Now to access safe mode you use the F8 key.

How to ....
Restart your PC before the window xp loading screen(the one with the we bar going along the bottom)
hit F8. (just keep tapping F8 after you see the post message disappear)

then select safe mode.

Once safe mode comes on you should see 4 accounts one being the administrator account. (or you use the login screen were you have to type a username and password. type administrator with blank password.) if you see all 4 account click on administrator. it should log in. 75% of the time during an XP install the administrator password is left blank.

if it lets you in without password just to to control panel user account n change mums password.

that should be you in fine.

Wrong as i said,

the account you create when installing windows that has administrative access is not the main admin account on the PC.

so if u install xp n creat ehte username phillip. it will have admin access yes and will be an administrator.

but it won't be the main administrative account.

By default XP hides that administrator account. (theres always a administrator account on XP, its reserved and hidden)

only way to get that account is :

1. use safe mode
2. use gpedit.msc and allow it to log on when not using safe mode.

even if u do a ctrl + alt + del and enter administrator with the blank password. it won't work :)
