Since i have installed MP!L ive noticed that when i open my contact list, the button does not appear in the taskbar, but if i uninstall MP!L then everything is good.. it started with the last version of 8.1, and has carried on to Messenger 8.5 Beta

Well that is most likely your problem.

To disable this; click on the scripts icon on your contact list (3 cubes), then enhancer, then choose preferences. On the left side choose the contact list tab, then under miscellaneous settings there is a checkbox which you must uncheck in order to see your taskbar button.
