I can download Messenger Plus! Live but it will not let me sign in.  I have Windows Vista!

We need to know more information... if an error message appear, etc..

It comes up with an error saying.......

"Windows Live Messenger has made several failed attempts to sign you in.  Your firewall may be blocking Windows Live Messenger from connecting to the service.  Please review your firewall settings.  See the retailer's instructions for more information.

Error code:  81000306"

I have changed my firewall settings and nothing has happened.

I also troubleshooted and it said everthing was fine.

If you uninstall Messenger Plus! Live, then can you sign-in? It is important because we must know if Messenger Plus! causes the problem or not.

What settings do you change in the Firewall? Are you using Win Vista firewall or a third part firewall?

IF YOU USE WIN VISTA FIREWALL
You have necessary to go in the Vista Security Center, then in the Windows Firewall section (you find the icon of Security Center in your traybar). Click then in Change Settings.. In Exceptions tab (I have italian version, so I don't know who is the correct translation) you have to add Windows Live Messenger at the exceptions list or add the oversight to the Windows Live Messenger and also Windows Live Messenger (phone) voices.

If I uninstall Messenger Plus it still wont let me sign in.

Just adding that on XP there is an Exceptions Tab on the Firewal Opitions!!!
You can find it on the Safety Center (translated from portuguese)...

So, is not Plus! problem...


Maybe you have other firewal or similar program that you haven't added WLM to the Exceptions???

I have turned Vista Firewall off.  It's a firewall through Netgear Router.

Try this..

Click Start > then Run

Then type in
regsvr32 Softpub.dll
And press OK

And the same with these two..
regsvr32 Mssip32.dll
regsvr32 Initpki.dll
