O.P. Monitor dimming in Windows Vista?
Hi all :)

Is there a way to force the monitor in Windows Vista to dim just like the iMacs?

The Power Dimmer is a free download for Windows (XP and 2000) only.

So, it might not even run properly on vista. ;)

People in the comments section are using it on Vista.

I'm surprised there isn't an energy saver feature to send relative lamp power data to a monitor. For example, in laptops there is usually a set of hardware registers for this, but setting up a desktop to work the same would be a pain.
was put impeccably into words at DebianDay for me last Saturday, by Knut Yrvin of Trolltech - adults try something once, fail, and then are like "ffs this doesn't work". Children try, fail, and then try again, and succeed - maybe on the second, or even fifth retry. But the thing is that they keep at it and overcome the problems in the end.

I don't think there is one that could work as laptops use hardware to do that... your monitor should have that option

dimming monitors as in decreasing their brightness? Can't you do that manually? :-/

I think she wants it to happen automatically, to sort of half a half-off screen instead of a regular screen saver. I know you can do this on most laptops [it's absolutely trivial to do so on most laptops under Linux], bur for desktop LCDs you're out of luck.
