O.P. USB driver not recognized??
Hi all

Am having a problem with Windows Vista.

The moment I plug in a USB flash disk to a USB extension cable plugged directly to my PC I get the USB drive not recognized error!

But when I remove the extension cable and plug the USB directly, it works fine.

Any idea what could that be?

Obviously, the cable is a)bad; or b)too long.  You've already figured out how to solve your problem -- don't use it.

The cable is not bad, and its not long at all, just a normal generic extension cable.

I need it because of space limitations, and I don't have front USB connectors.

Any other recommendations?

The cable is obviously fckd up somehow, so go buy a new one, or just unplug things when you dont need them.
How is a usb flashdrive taking up too much space? :S

its not that!

I mean that to move my PC case every time to plug my USB flash disk is kinda inconvenient, so I was planning to extend a USB extension cable from the back of my PC case to the front, instead of always moving the damn thing when i want to connect my flash disk.

Well, I suppose another problem could be it being an older, USB 1.1 cable.  Those were not shielded as USB 2.0 standard requires, so it may work fine for some of your USB 1.1 devices, but not the flash drive which is almost certainly 2.0.

You may want to invest in a small powered USB 2.0 hub -- I keep a 4-port one on my desk for the same convenient access reasons.  It came with 2m of cable, cost about $20, and works perfectly.
