do you need a new version of msn to gt ur personal message in colors??

No you don't, just Plus! Live installed is fine.
You can't see it in color on your own Messenger though, still your friends will see it. This is due to technical limitations.

Add yourself to your contact list and you can see how the colours look.

You can also do the /psm in a conversation, followed by colour codes, etc.

I used to have me on my contact list but then i deleted myself and stuff and when i add myself it doesn't work lol
