O.P. Another "cant login - freeze" (sorry)
Hi all,

I'm sorry if this has been answered, i'm getting rather tired of it all now and may of missed it but i didnt find it.

The closest i got was here

http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=73003&page=2

With the final thread requiring me to stalk his friend :|

Ok, so WLM 8.1 -

Woke up this morning came to login, crashed.. err WTF ok, try again, same thing happened. Different PC, same thing! err right, another PC same thing.

Test other accounts, work fine. err?

Tried a freshly installed copy, nope. same again.

Got a friend in a different country (i trust him) to try my login details, nope, same thing.

Eventually ended up here, finding the above post...

So, it seems like i've been offline msg flooded?? How can i dump this flood?

I might add the account works. (web messenger, no problem! trillian, miranda both login fine) I found 1 offline msg (i think in miranda i'm new to both apps as of today) but thats all.

really really frustrated at this now

Please anyone - Save me :)

Do you happen to have a very large contact list?
I don't see it being an offline message flood problem as offline messages are only received once, and as such your Messenger would only crash the first time (and not all the time).

I used to have to reply with something before they went away, else they would pop up again on restart of WLM

I do have a moderatly large contact list, however in miranda i deleted 10+ contacts and still no help.

Its not like i added anyone on the last day it worked. But I thought i'd try it, but nope :(

I remember there was something which shawnz posted a while ago and if you put it in your Personal Message then you will never be able to log into Messenger again. Can't find the thread though.

I believe the solution was deleting the Messenger application data. Whilst this may not be the exact same problem it may be worth trying
NOTE: All your display pictures, custom emoticons, conversation backgrounds, winks, etc. will be deleted

1. Uninstall Messenger (through Control Panel > Add/Remove)
2. Open any folder and in the address bar put %appdata%\Microsoft then press Enter/Return.
3. Delete the 'MSN Messenger' folder at that location
4. Re-install Messenger

Goodluck

Volv,
I'm somewhat curious how this might be able to help... Why would a problem on 1 pc, effect everything? i've tried logging in at friends houses with no luck....

So, if i delete my \microsft\msn messenger folder.... how would that fix a global issue - i mean like - i'd get it if i could log on with PC A and not PC B... Just i dont understand how deleting a file on PC B can then allow PC A.. XYZ to work

well i have exactly the same problem, ive been wandreing arround this forumfor a while and havent find a real solution, but it is true that the problem is the offline flood.

you never get to receive the offline flood, cause it crashes before you get it, so it will try to send it to you everytime you log in, no matter where or when.

So if anyone know hoy to stop this, plz......
