O.P. password protecting a folder
is there anyway of protecting a folder with a password or something? or is there a program that does this?

You could put the files/folders in a password protected zip folder.

i dont really want to do that because the files that i am trying to protect are actual applications so i am trying to get it at the least complicated as possible if that makes sense...

On NTFS filesystems, it should be possible. Right-click, select Properties, then the Security tab.

Can't check, on Linux atm.

What ShawnZ suggested is only works for Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition. Plus if you are trying to keep someone that uses the same username as you out of the folder it is useless because it doesn't use a password.

I suggest you look at the links in CookieRevised's reply to Folder Locker or more specifically CookieRevised's reply to Password Protect Folder would be my recommendation if Cookie likes it so much.
