O.P. missing AC'97 driver for HP Pavilion 512a
I'm currently rebuilding a pc for a friend, and I've got pretty much everything alright, except for the audio driver. I'm pretty sure it's AC97 as it says so on the HP site, but when the right driver is installed (to me) it says "The device cannot start (Code 10)".

Any ideas?

Mobo is "TriGem 129504 (Imperial)" with onboard sound.

I notice that HP doesn't offer a sound driver for that model from their downloads section, and other sources of the web seem to disagree whether the AC97 codec chip on that board is a Realtek ALC202 or Analog Devices AD1886.  Which driver did you try?

The Realtek driver is available here.  The AD1886 driver seems to be harder to find (and also less likely), so I decided to not bother looking for it until you try the Realtek one.  Let us know how that works out.

I tried using the Add Hardware Wizard, and found that all the drivers listed on there didn't seem to like the machine. I'll try the Realtek one in the meantime.

EDIT: I took a look inside at the codec IC and it has the Realtek logo on it.
