On my Dell laptop (Inspiron 6400 / E1505) there are some hotkeys at the front of the laptop.
At the moment, it only works with Windows Media Player and it did work with iTunes until Apple released an update for it. Also, when I select a media file and press the play key, it will run. I mainly want it to work with VLC and iTunes. I have the right software for it to run.
How comes the hotkeys won't work with all applications?

Are you talking about the media keys perhaps? Don't know what to tell you, but I know some programs where you have to enable the option to use hotkeys in the options/preferences sometimes. Winamp works fine with my keys (I have an HP laptop), so I'm not sure if that's it or anything.

Yeh they are media keys (volume control, play/pause, etc.)
