O.P. Cannot delete contacts. HELP ME!
I deleted 2 contacts from my contacts list. When I restarted messenger, the contacts were still there. I did it couple of times but nothing. I've tried cleaning up hotmail contacts too but it doesn't help. In fact, the contacts removed from messenger didn't even appear in the hotmail list. What should I do? :|

I tried to delete contacts on my other msn account and it worked?

My good old method of clearing the contacts cache usually works with problems like this :P

Try deleting Contacts cache.

My Computer. Tools > Folder Options > View tab > Show hidden files and folders

My Computer > Your hard drive (usually C:\) > Documents and Settings > [Your user] > Contacts > Delete the folder with your email address. Restart WLM.

RE: Cannot delete contacts. HELP ME!
In my case the contacts reappeared after a few days :|

I have Windows Live Messenger 8.5.1302.1018 and Messenger Plus! Live 4.50.0.312.

Deleting the contacts cache I did not try yet.
Maybe that will work.

I wonder if Mamemo had any succes?

Well try deleting cache first.

Then maybe try deleting them on a different IM program, such as Pidgin.

RE: Cannot delete contacts. HELP ME!
Well I deleted the contact-cache after removing a contact (I guess) and today the contact appeared on my list again.
I will now delete the contact-cache first, then login on WLM, then delete the contact-cache again, then I will remove the contact, then I will delete the contact-cache again...

I will even delete the contact-cache on another computer which I hardly use anymore...

If the contact will come back, I could try another program, but I don't think that will cure the problem.

By the way. there were some maps in C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts which were the result of a mistyped username when trying to logon. I deleted these maps too and they have come back too!
The contact appeared again...:@

I logged in on webmessenger.msn.com and all the deleted contacts were gone....:|
When I logged in again with Live Messenger they were there again. :@

So, it looks like on MSN's server the contacts are gone but somewhere on my computer they're still there and because of that they keep coming back.
Finaly found it. Had to delete both the file in "C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Contacts" AND the same one in "C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts"

Now I'm going nuts.
Thought I had found it but the user I deleted is back again.
All other users are listed twice! Also every group is twice!

This morning I logged on with my laptop at my work so I guess that has something to do with it. Some synchronisation of the 'documents and settings' map...

The cache in C:\Documents and settings\<username>\Contacts is the problem, the other map has not changed back.
