so the other day I was having a convo with a friend and she starting typing text smilies without the actual smiley emotion appearing, and I had show emotions on so I asked her she did it but she won't tell me, so does anyone else know how this is done?

Hey, welcome to the forum.

Presuming you have Messenger Plus! Live..
Just type /noicon before your message. For example:

code:
/noicon :)
Will return:
code:
:)

Enjoy!

RE: smilies/text smilies
That will only work if your contact has also Messenger Plus!...

People without Messenger Plus! will still see the graphical smiley (if they have enabled "Show emoticons" in their Messenger's options).

see also suqquestion: disable standard smiley.
