Does anyone know why the Characters from Character Map on XP become boxes on WLM display names?

Because WLM doesn't support most of those special characters.

Most of my friends WLM can support some of the common speical characters suchas hearts and symbols

on the messenger list its self if u are talkin that ya it will do that but in the convo if u see box's with other ppls names and stuff

i had a prob and i got pointed to that when i posted about it on the mess be forum so hope that works ..

if u do that and when u type to them it should show up but like i said on the messenger list on yours at the top besides the picture it wont..

I had this problem before...

I think you need to install Chinese and Arabic characters. They should be on the XP installation disc.

hmm, bigb88 I'm afraid this didn't fix my problem, and i have the chinese and arabic characters installed.
any more suggestions?

where do u see the box?? and u did what they said there? both parts

I see the boxes on my display name during chat, and I see the boxes on my contacts name and on my list, they look like this [] and sometimes the perfect square ones. I can see characters like "Ä,ō etc" on WLM and during chat but I don't know why the korean letters or symbols like the heart become squared.
Yes I have done what they said, Both of them too
