O.P. RE: New headset
Unfortunately i'm not as rich as $300 and I am only looking for headphones that play audio suitably and has a USB plug and play capability, as I am completely unable to get my front jacks on the computer to work and the back jacks, simply require too much effort to deal with all the time.
...there used to be a signature here :)

RE: New headset
I'm not quite sure what the headset audio quality is like, but I recently purchased a Logitech EasyCall pack from PCW for £25. Now, I was really just looking for a keyboard and mouse for my little sister as I'd built a new PC for myself, but this is a pretty damned good deal.

Basically, in the box you get:
Wireless Keyboard
Wireless Mouse
USB Audio Thing
Stereo Headset.

Basically, the USB Audio Thing is a big speaker, but it also acts as the wireless receiver for the mouse and keyboard. It also has two plugs on the side: one for the microphone, and one for the headset audio - they're standard 3.5mm jacks.

There's also a bunch of buttons for Skype integration, etc.

I have to say, it's one of the best things I've bought from PCWorld in a long long time.

I certainly wouldn't call it "high fidelity", but it might be acceptable for someone who also finds the white iPod earbuds good enough.
I have that headset and it is definitely good, but I don't use it for music so no idea what it's bass is like =p
