Means it has 4GB RAM installed and the pre-installed OS is 32bit. A 32bit OS can only use 3GB of RAM, so you'll be wasting 1GB. You could format the system and install 64bit Vista IF they offer 64bit drivers. I have a Sony Vaio with 4GB myself, and couldn't find any 64bit drivers :(.

I don't know if you plan to carry this around a lot, but keep in mind 17inch and up is quite bulky and heavy. Great as desktop replacement, shit to carry around.

Yeah you say dell bought alienware... the fact is alienware is still a separate company, it's just dell owns the rights and such.

If you don't care about bulk and size - and want pure performance, you need to look at alienware - you can customize it to what you need.

It's best to get something to back your data up onto. If you store a lot of your work on a laptop and the Hard Disk breaks and is beyond repair or data salvage you can be a little screwed. If that happens your backup device becomes a holy grail. You could back stuff up online, but a lot of UK unis are quite strict with your bandwidth usage.

They won't really care, there connections are fantastic. But under no circumstances go downloading torrents, they will kick you out! Save that for when you come home.

Policies on bandwidth usage differ from institution to institution. However, one must remember that university internet connections are provided primarily for academic use. I've known a few people get in trouble for excessive YouTube viewing.

Using BBC iPlayer does use a lot of bandwidth you could easily rack up 1gb per day.
