ok, i've just reformatted my PC against a virus, i can't instal WLM because i don't have any service packs (yes this is an old disc) and i can't install SP3 because i need SP1

any help?

edit: i found SP2, do i need SP1 for this?

No you don't need sp1 for sp2.

thank you, Nathan, you have saved me a lot of sweating, i would hate to waste my time downloading SP2 when i can jump from SP1 to SP3

and u dont need sp2 for sp3 lol

always rem sp2 has sp1 crap and sp3 has sp2 crap lol

So in theory, if you already had the 'SP2 crap' installed on your machine, you wouldn't have to waste time with the same stuff from sp2 that feature on sp3?

lol if u have sp2 and u install sp3 u will have all the updates from sp2 and a few more that u can only get in sp3

Yes, I was just wondering if sp3 takes the time to install some updates from SP2 over itself or just check if they're installed and skip the ones that are already on the machine...

No, it only has one copy of each file which it overwrites, and then marks the security updates between the two releases as installed.

You can actually extract the contents of a Service Pack and be left with an almost complete Windows install folder (but not quite, I'm afraid).
