O.P. Error code 80048820... Again.
My Windows Live Messenger has had this error for over 4 months now, and I'm growing tired of it. I understand there have been multiple other threads about this, and I have search many times, but the bottom line is: I've tried absolutely everything. Everything apart from resetting my MTU size, because A) I never touched it to begin with, and B) I don't want to mess around with my computer. The problem first occurred when my computer over heated and I had to get Dell to come and repair it. Since then, my old router hasn't worked and I'm now using a new one. When I switched routers, my Windows Live Messenger died, and it's still dead to this day. I seem to get a certificate error whenever I enter a webpage on the Live website, and I've never been able to access links sent to me. So perhaps someone here will help me, because I haven't had any luck so far. Oh and could someone tell me if there is a way to change my MTU without fiddling with the cmd console? Thank you in advance!

Sorry, but I can't understand these instructions, it's all gibberish to me. Maybe an idiot friendly tutorial...

Two simple things to try:

1. Click Start (Button), and then click Run, type regsvr32 softpub.dll.  Restart MSN Messenger.

2. Check that your system clock and date is correct.

The instructions are already fairly idiot friendly, they give step by step instructions and provide some pictures too.

Just take a bit of time to read them slowly and follow each step...it's the only way to learn :P
