O.P. iTunes help
Right, here's the query

I've replaced a couple of songs in my itunes with different versions (better remixes, fixing bad versions, etc)

but i don't want these old songs bumped to the top of my list, so what i did was deleted the old file, put the new one in the same place and then redirected the itunes entry.

This is all very well except for one problem......i can't skip through to further than the old length

for example, one song i had used to cut out after 1min cos it was a dud version.....i've now put the proper 4 min song in and it plays fine, except if i try to skip thru when it's playing, then it just zips back to 1 minute and will only play from there.

What i want to know is if there is any way to fix it (other than adding the song from new and therefore having it at the top of my list)

I tried editing the library xml file to change the duration to longer, but it keeps resetting it everytime i reopen itunes

RE: iTunes help
I've been looking through iTunes and there may be an option that could help.

- Right click the song your having these issues with and select 'Get Info'
- Go to 'Options'
- Try adjusting the 'Start Time' and 'Stop Time', they may be set to odd values depending on how iTunes recognized the song earlier.

Hope this helps, apologies if not.

Changing the stop time makes it worse, lol

If i set a stop time then the song just cuts out once it gets to where the original end was

RE: iTunes help
I've done some more searching and this article seems to be a way to fix your problem.

http://paulbeard.org/wordpress/index.php/archives...one-or-moving-one/

I did not read over it fully, but it outlines deleting or moving the ACTUAL iTunes library file and then proceeding to edit the .xml version. iTunes will then reconstruct it's actual library from the .xml version, which is apparently a backup.

Hope this helps (again)

that method does work, however it also messes up quite a few things that at the moment i don't have the time to reconstruct carefully enough (loses a lot of album artwork and stuff)

i'll bear it in mind for when i eventually want to sort it out though...great find (Y)

Try deleting the song from your library that being a pain and then reimporting it. That sometimes works for me.

Good luck solving your problem (Y):)
