hello...my desktop pc works with the same version of messenger as my laptop... and the contaktlist on my desktop pc shows me little avatars by the name of my friend...the messenger on my laptop shows me little green icons... how can i get the avatars???

Click the icon in the contact list that looks like two green arrows and select "show contact details" or something like that
If you are on the version 9.0 Beta then click the icon that says "Change contact list layout" when you hover over it, and then select whichever sized picture you want from the menu that comes up
