O.P. Windows: Bad Image - Error at custom notification sound
When Messenger Plus plays a sound through a custom notification Windows Vista (64 bit Business, SP1) throws the following error:

code:
Windows - Bad Image

Exception Processing Message 0xc000007b Parameters 0x000007FEFDAB7240 0x000007FEFDAB7240 0x000007FEFDAB7240 0x000007FEFDAB7240

This only happens when playing a sound through a custom notification. Soundless notifications are fine, so are normal MSN sounds.

My Live Messenger version is 2008 build 8.5.1302.1018.
Plus version is 4.80.0.356.

[Edit]

Some further research (read: random googling) indicates that this might in fact be something screwed up deep down in the bowels of my Windows. What I would be very interested to know is how Messenger Plus plays those sounds, what calls it makes, what libraries it uses etc etc. If I could get that information I'd be much obliged.

This does not seem to be a problem caused by Messenger Plus!. It may be one of your DirectX drivers though. To play MP3/WAV files, Plus! uses its own internal libraries but if you play the default sound of Messenger, it's WMA played by the Windows Media Player ActiveX.

Strangely enough, when I play the sound with Windows Media Player, no error occurs. I'll try a reinstallation of DirectX and see where it takes me. Thanks for the info.

RE: Windows: Bad Image - Error at custom notification sound
Hello I am also getting this problem and I have the latest DirectX SDK and runtime.  I never had this problem until I got 4.8.x. It first was working ok, but then one day I started to get this error.  I cannot remember if I installed anything new, I haven't changed much before when I first got this error.  I wonder if some Windows Update is to blame as I remember one would cause PCSX2 VM to crash on start.  I tried Windows Media Player and it works with no problems.

I see that these DLLs are used when your program tries to play the WMA file.

ModLoad: 00000000`64d10000 00000000`654d6000   C:\Windows\SysWOW64\wmploc.dll
ModLoad: 00000000`6e650000 00000000`6e674000   C:\Windows\SysWOW64\wmpps.dll

I'll try to find a solution to this.

My System:
DirectX November 2008
Windows Vista x64 Home Premium SP1
Visual C++ Runtime 2008 SP1
Windows Live Messenger 14.x (patched)
Messenger Plus! Live 4.8.x
