O.P. Undecided  WLM 2009 giving link messages to contacts? Help?
Hi not sure how to describe whats happening other then showing conversation when I logged in after a week of not opening IM at all.
I have the latest WLM 2009 also.

05/02/2009  08:17:23 PM  M I K E Did you send me some links?

05/06/2009 07:57:00 AM  M I K E   I cant recall....... what the links were  ............I hope you didn't log in at that site

05/07/2009  04:21:51 AM  M I K E   thatzparty link.

05/07/2009  04:25:17 AM  M I K E  if you did NOT send me that link (ThatzParty.com/?image=DSC00245.JPG) date-my-im site then you had better change your msn/hotmail password right now

05/07/2009  04:26:08 AM  M I K E  and beware of ANY non msn site that asks for your msn log in

05/07/2009  06:43:37 AM  M I K E    New dirty trick tries to hack your MSN password......ONE OF YOUR msn contacts sends you a link......the trick link has YOUR username in it.......Don't click it........then notify the sender that he needs to change his MSN password

05/11/2009  01:11:09 AM  M I K E  all you need to do is change your password

05/11/2009  01:11:13 AM  M I K E  and.........

05/11/2009  01:11:43 AM  M I K E  dont enter your msn log-in at any non msn site

05/11/2009  01:12:23 AM  M I K E    read the web address carefully before log-in

not everyone has contacted me, but several people have, most know me and that I would not be part of such sites. Seems its just happening to those who did last update? I hope people are working to fix it, I am thinking I should uninstall IM,  reboot, run scans, before reinstalling.
My security on im is I do not let people see me unless I know them.
From another conversation with a different person

renee said (04:48 AM):
of course I know you dont do that, thats why I knew something was wrong. You're not the only one having this trouble, think there is something wrong with Live's security

renee said (04:51 AM):
Havent received any links anymore but I do see you come on line for a minute or so and then go offline again, although I cant remember if that happened yesterday as well, I know it happened about 5 times on sunday

and note Sunday was Mothers day and I was not sitting at the computer at all, so its some glitch at windows live end.
I have been doing scans and even did a hijack this with friends help, all checks out clean. Clean but for links being sent when I was not on line. Seems to have started beginning of may, if that helps you solve things.

This has absolutely nothing to do with updating to the latest Windows Live Messenger, it is a phishing attack. You must have logged in to some phishing sites that collected your information. To solve that problem, you should change your password immediatley.

Finally, learn not to click any sites received from any contacts even if you trust them unless you are assured that the site is safe.
