Apple Itouch questions

O.P. Apple Itouch questions
I'm thinking of getting an Itouch questions i had.

1) with the internet portion of it...i can go to a house with wireless and use the internet on the itouch is that true?
2) can i use it as a phone?
3) when i unlock it i just download the applications from the apple site for free am I right?

It connects like a laptop, so you'll need to either connect to an open network, or know the required authentication information.

Not an iphone, but perhaps there are alternative ways similar to skype? Not sure, don't own one myself.

1) As Lou said, you either need an open network or to know the network key.
2) Not exactly...but you can buy a separate microphone and there are some VOIP applications that might let you do similar things to a phone.
3) The applications are from the App Store. Some of them are free, but not all of them.
