O.P. Undecided  Msn incredably slow/freezing
Hey there.

Sorry if this problem has been solved before, I couldn't find any answers and did read a few of the threads & faq's on this page.  I read a few of the threads which sounded similar to my problem, yet they were randomly answered with a "PersonX solved my problem! Thanks!"..  *-)

I've also e-mailed msn with the following message;

quote:
Often when I'm on msn, it has the following problems;

- When signing it, the window freezes, before loading and all the contacts that are online, appear to come online all at once, with pop up alerts lining the right of my screen

- MSN Games often freeze when loading, or while I'm playing.

- The converstion box will often freeze during a conversation.

- File transfers will fail to send, or I will fail to recieve from a recepitant.

- Messages will fail to send with 'The following message could not be delivered to all recipients:'

I know that the problem is not my computer as I'm running Windows XP SP2, on a 3 GHz machine with 1 GB of RAM.  I can run high spec games such as the sims 2 with no problem.  My internet connection is a fast, wireless one.  I have no trouble reading my e-mail or browsing the internet, or playing online games via my connection.

So i'm wondering, why does messenger run so poorly?  Why does it seem as if its struggling to load up all the time?  Is there anyway I can solve this problem?

[Frequency of the issue:]  Always present

[Where are you trying to connect from?]   Home

[Which Version of Messenger are you running? ]  Windows Live Messenger 8.1

[If you have a firewall, which one?]  Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall

[Who is Your ISP?]  Other

[Type of Internet connection:]  Cellular/Wireless Modem

[Where did you get Messenger?]  Download from MSN

They told me to uninstall, defrag, clean up my pc and delete a couple of registry keys which I did..  I also uninstalled messenger plus (but kept my settings as I knew I'd want it back! :D) and even when running just WLM on its own, it freezes as it signs in, and seems to freeze and not respond when just trying to check whos online.  With my specs outlined as above, I really shouldn't be having any problems!  It also tends to run slow on my Laptop, which is a little slower than my PC but still has 1 GB of RAM and is pretty new.

I'm just wondering if its messenger plus making it run slower?  Anyone know how to solve my problem?  As with other people's similar problems, when I load other accounts they come up a LOT faster and don't really freeze at all.

Thanks!

Most probably not.

This sounds like a server connection issue to me more than anything.

Please state your MSN or Windows Live Messenger version (and your country if you don't mind), while I try to find you the patch that changes your connection server.

Here it is : http://shoutbox.menthix.net/attachment.php?pid=273157

I don`t know if it does work on Windows Live Messenger though, but you might as well give it a try.

First of all let me say you made a very good report.

What they told you todo usually solves most of the problems and is therefor the first message you will recieve if you send such a report.

But, unfortunatly, you made the big error to stop there and come here to ask for help. Instead you should have replied to them telling you did everything they suggested and that it still runs slow. You also should tell them that with the other accounts everything is ok.

So, instead of hacking stuff, I extremely very strongly recommend that you reply to Microsoft with your problems instead.

(this goes for everybody in this thread here, but especially kayzie).

If you don't do that then Microsoft will never know what the real problem is (and think that by "cleaning up your pc" everything was solved) and other people will continue to suffer from the slow servers.

So, kayzie, I very strongly suggest you reply again to their email saying that you did everything they asked you to do and that it is still slow with that particular account.

For others, please do not use that patch, first report the problem to Microsoft and reply kindly to their emails and suggestions.

You have no idea how important it is to report such problems to Microsoft, and follow them up until it is fixed for you!

Using patches and hacks like that should only be done as a very last resort.

;)
