Really eh? So should I put it where the Patchou folder sits now? Also what about my other question about the Patchou folder in the other Registry parts?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE (a.k.a HKEY_USERS\S-blahblahblah\SOFTWARE) is for per-user settings, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE is for system-wide settings :p

also, i highly doubt that your problem is related to those settings. groups aren't even a msgplus feature :p it's probably just a server issue.

What about CURRENT_USER? Is that automatically updated if I update USERS?

And I know this has nothing to do with the lost group...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER is just an alias to HKEY_USERS\[your user's SID]. you should always use CURRENT_USER so you know you're modifying the right user's settings :p

oh, i see what you did now. when you loaded the software hive from your old installation, you had HKEY_USERS selected, so it loaded it as HKEY_USERS\SOFTWARE. :p its actual path on your old installation would have been HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE.

Why would it have been LOCAL MACHINE if I had USERS selected? Anyway, I added it to the Sxxxxx folder and it worked! Now how do I get all my custom emoticons and live messenger settings? Damn this should have all been in my other thread...anyone a mod?
