O.P. Where does MSN 9 save emoticons...?
I've searched for hours in both my computer and on the web about where MSN saves emotes you've added.

I'm running on Plus! 4.8, on MSN 9.

What I've come across is a program called ConCon. Well, I've gone through all the tuts on how to use it, and I can't install it.

I've tried using MSN Backup. The latest version doesn't work properly, and the version that DOES work saves all the smilies as .MCO.

So, three questions.

a) Is there a way to transcode the .MCO files into .GIF?
b) Is there a program that will backup all the emoticons to .GIF?
c) Is there a specific file or group of files where MSN saves the emoticons?

No, mine are not saved in the applicationdata/microsoft/randomnumbers or whatever folder. I've checked.

In fact, all your objects are stored under C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Messenger\<Windows Live Id>\ObjectStore (that's with Vista, must be something similar on XP). Anyhow,

Which simply says that if you change the .mco ext to .rar, you'll be able to open it, which will contain both a .xml file and a .png/.gif, the original emoticon. Try it =)

2. Don't know, but you can copy that ObjectStore folder, all .dt2 files are "openable" if you know what is the correct extension. Simply try .gif, then .png, then .jpg in copies.

3. C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Messenger\<Windows Live Id>\ObjectStore\CustomEmoticons

Portuguese, right?

I can read spanish, and it was strikingly similar. Actually, I think I may have seen that thread somewhere when I was researching.

I'll check it out.

EDIT: Nope. I guess it's only Vista. I don't have a C:\Users directory.
