yes it is quite possible sometimes camera drivers can add webcam icons, and I've had it happen to me before too, my msn said I had a webcam and heaps of ppl kept asking me to use it and I was like, look I don't have a webcam regardless of what msn says, it doesn't change the physical fact that no webcam exists in my house.
He should be able to hide that Icon from his end, but it probably doesn't bother him enough for him to care
