I was also prompted for update, if this is what we're talking about:



At first it kept showing me errors and I finally managed to update. Didn't like the new version, it's totally different, with some new irritating options and missing some of the old options at the same time. Simple didn't like it    I installed the old version again (this one), but it won't let me sign in, keeps showing me the prompt for update    It's getting really annoying!  How can I sign in with the old version?

YourNeibour: can you try downloading the new version from the site and tell us if this works? it should be the same setup but maybe there was a problem during your download.

Lujka: the update prompt you got is from Microsoft, for Messenger itself. It is not related to Messenger Plus!.

But I can't log in to Messenger Plus anyway So, what do I do now?

I actually downloaded it from the http://shoutbox.menthix.net and I got the same error....I've downloaded it twice and got the same error

YourNeibour: could you try unisntalling Messenger Plus! and restart your computer? this is a very strange issue. When uninstalling, just select to keep your user settings so you won't lose anything personal.

The prompt you got is from Messenger itself, not from Messenger Plus!. Your issue is something completely different than what this thread is about.

Messenger is the program you use to chat with.
Messenger Plus! is an addon to add some extra features

From this weekend, all people using MSN Messenger 8.x will _need_ to upgrade to Windows Live Messenger. This is a mandatory update.

Windows Live Messenger adds more features and many bugs and security issues from the previous Messenger versions are fixed. Eventhough it looks a bit different, you can change the look a bit with its new options. There are almost no features removed compared to Messenger 8.x.

I deleted it completely from my system and removed it from the registry and installed in and worked now....very weird.
