Hey guys,

Ever since having to upgrade from the standard msn i havent been able to open the program at all. Whenever i try i get an error message saying:

"Windows Live Messenger has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."

So i click to see what the error report contains and i get this message:

"AppName: msnmsgr.exe     AppVer: 14.0.8089.726     ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0     Offset: 021b9610"

Assuming the problem was with 'msnmsgr.exe' i had a go at deleting that but it didnt do anything to help. I havent been able to open this program for a week and have tried countless reinstalls, can anybody help?

I tried a system restore, and i tried running Zapmessenger but nothing happens, it just carries on loading.

I may have the answer to your problem as I had it myself. Try right click on your messenger icon, go to properties,go to compatibility. If run for windows 95 ticked, untick it. I f run in 256 colours is ticked, untick it. I did this and now I have messenger running again. I hope this helps you.Best wishes Andy.
