O.P. Recover sounds
Hello
Can somebody help me about sound recovery? I was copied my sounds from c:\program data\messenger plus!\custom sounds to a backup storage. These files are .dat.I reinstalled my windows, and installed WLM amd MsgPlus, copied these .dat-s to the same folder, but WLM doesn't recognize them. So what can i do to recover these sounds?

Sorry for my bad english! And THX for help and cooperation.

RE: Recover sounds
Use Sound Library Fixer :)

In future, instead of copying the dat files, create a soundpack if possible. That way you can easily reimport all your sounds without the need of an additional program ;)

Read the whole post carefully; you need to install some additional resources.

RE: Recover sounds
Sorry to bring up an old thread, but this isn't working on Windows 7 here either... Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that the VB6 redistributable isn't supported on Windows 7.

I guess I'll have to just import the .dat files, it seems to be the only way now...

RE: Recover sounds
Extracting them using the MsgPlus Sound Pack Extractor should hopefully work.

Edit: Sorry, forgot that it was dat files.

That tool is only for directly extracting sound files from a soundpack. It wouldn't help at all in his problem.

@ryxdp, L7wy

Did you installed the VB6 redistributable package and the COMCTL32.OCX as explained here?

Can you tell me exactly what error messages you get and when you get them?
Can you also try to run Choli's MsgPlus Tweaker and see if the same problems occur?

(I don't have Win7 yet myself, so I can't test this; it does work perfect on Vista though)

It looks like some of the stuff the COMCTL32.OCX needs is missing in Windows 7. As for the VB redistributable, as it's not supported in 7 it doesn't seem to install properly.

It is supported, just as COMCTL32.OCX is.

(note: remember that to install stuff like that you always need to do it from an elevated command prompt in Vista and above).

What exact error messages do you get?
And what are the exact procedures you do, can you describe them as detailed as possible?
Do you have a 64bit or 32bit version and what is the language of your OS?

As soon as I have Win7 I can debug it myself, but for now I can't... sorry

RE: Recover sounds
Well, the download page for the VB6 package doesn't say Windows 7 anywhere (or Vista for that matter)...and if it's shipped with 7 as your link says, shouldn't it be just working?

MsgPlusTweak gives me this:

quote:
Run-time error '339':

Component 'COMCTL32.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid

And upon running MsgPlusLibFix, this error comes up, regardless of whether I elevate it:

quote:
Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

Running the VB6 setup elevated did nothing different. I have since fixed the problem by simply adding back the .dat files the normal way, with no real loss of quality.
