O.P. MPL 4.83.376 changelog?
Just saw that a new release was published yesterday (4.83.376, superseding 4.83.372), but couldn't find any information about it. I thought you guys might know something? :-)

(exactly 1year and 7months today since my last post here... hehe)

Cheers!

Nope, nothing except things we can find out on ourselves. Quote from the beta forum:

Actually, it's not the same file as the .376 build we saw before. MD5 has changed since, digital signature is also stamped January 15.

To make things more confusing:
  • Download from http://www.msgpluslive.net/download/ and you will get the toolbar (Conduit) as sponsor option, and the file is signed by Yuna Software.
  • Do a manual update check (/checkupdates) or wait for auto-update to do its thing and you get PlusNetwork.com (Ask!) as sponsor option, and the file is signed by Patchou.
In both cases the installer is stamped .376 and signed January 15.

RE: MPL 4.83.376 changelog?
There is no real changelog because nothing has changed in Plus! itself. Only the setup has changed to accomodate the new toolbar.

Though, I still would like to see a changelog regardless if there were only minor changes or if it was only the toolbar being added.

It's not that confusing though as there has always been a difference between the auto-update one and the one from the website when a new release is published.

So it is probably done on purpose to 'test' out this new version with toolbar before everybody gets auto-updated. So, most likely the auto-update and manual-update files will be updated soonish. Patchou has always taken this approach in the past too, to spread the load on the server.

Anyways, for all those new 376 'versions' goes:
All About boxes says: version 4.83.376 - released on 24/12/09
However, the setups themself were compiled and signed on 15/01/10.
(trivia: the auto-update and manual-update 'versions' have actually been compiled after the ones from the website, and were put online later)

All the other internal files are identical to the previous 376 build we saw before (which was a silent update).
Aka, only the setup itself has changed, Plus! itself is still identical to previous build (except for the translation files to accomodate the new toolbar setup).

If people have other versions (eg: the 373 build) or some other subversion of the same build number as listed above, you can always contact me ;)
Note: version numbers have never been a good indentification since they are not always updated. You must check several parameters to see if you actual have the same version or not (eg: MD5 hash).

The auto-update file *is* updated though and pushing out .376, but another .376 than on the download page. Which is something different than usual where auto-update wouldn't notify anybody until one or two weeks after release, at which point auto-update would serve the same file as the download page.

I guess it comes down to the same thing if they change auto-update in 1 or 2 weeks to serve the toolbar version too. But atm it's still pretty confusing, certainly for people who don't realize auto-update, /checkupdates, and the download page are 3 separate things.

Not having a changelog doesn't help either. IMO every time you bug users with an auto-update notification and/or change the build number on the download page people should be able to see what changed. No matter if it's only the sponsoring or tiny changes.

/me considers keeping an archive of releases again (including the silent ones)

yeah, I just checked more closely and there are actually 4 versions! Where one can't be downloaded directly at the moment since its link is not published anywhere. This is the version you normally download from the website, but with the Ask.com sponsor (see previous post).

I couldn't agree more

Hehe, I see CookieRevised still is the man with the answers, and more detail than one could ever hope for ;-)
I'm wondering though, how do you even know about all these silent updates? Do you download Plus!'s setup everyday or something? :|

Thanks for your input guys!

RE: MPL 4.83.376 changelog?
Not really. It usually is just by accident or on a case-to-case basis, like now. I sure don't have all the setup versions that you could download in one way or the other (I whish :d). However, checking regularly in an automated way has been the plan since a long time, but it never gets to that...

Since a very long time I'm 'working' on an elaborate version checker. But it never gets finished because each time I get somewhere and think I'm on the right track there are things which come to light (at least to 'my light' :p) which further slows down the development (like now*) because it gets more and more complex to get all the possible versions in an automated way. Not to mention I really need to find a decent way to make sense of all the data and catalog all of them. And then there are also the private versions for the beta testers of course. And you don't want to overload the servers either with useless downloads you already got...

eg: Apparently you need to check 5 different links now to get 'all' possible compiled builds for a specific public release. 5 instead of 4, because there is still the old link too, but the version you'll find there is at the moment identical to the one pointed to by the website. Although both files are physically different files (as you could check by the returned server datetime).

* It was actually Menthix previous posts which rang my bell to also check the autoupdate and manualupdate methods. I never considered that they would link to even yet other compiled versions than the ones you can find via the website. And by investigating the links that the update feature uses I 'discovered' another working link with yet another version (4th one, the one with md5: 72c8c2…) which isn't available by normal means (doesn't mean it wouldn't be available soonish or 'by random' like some versions from the past in regards to the attached sponsor though).

The rest is just very boring and tedious analysis of the downloaded files.

It doesn't hurt either, in general I would recommend to always update.
