About the Way Message Feature (please help)

When I set my self to away on my WLM and I notice when people IM me when I am away my auto away message do not appear. I want to know how can I fix this. It happens everytime I set my self to away and my auto away message do not work please help me.

Is there something likely to be changing your status to something else?
