O.P. Alternative WLM Clients
Basically, I'm looking for an alternative WLM client that supports having BBCODE in names and stuff like that, like in Messenger Plus! Live. This is pretty much the only thing keeping me from using something like Digby or Pidgin, because a lot of my friends use Plus, and the code in their names renders them almost unreadable without Plus installed.

To be honest, your best bet is to just use WLM & Plus!

Windows Live Messenger/Plus! Live is probably your best bet if you're using windows. If you're using Linux, you could try Pidgin (as you mentioned), emesene, or aMSN. On OS X, there is an official Microsoft client (that doesn't support colors); Audium, which is based off Pidgin; and there are builds of aMSN for mac. I am not sure if aMSN is capable of displaying colors.

There are probably more, such as Trillian, but I do not know how well they perform, and which clients support color codes in names.

Plus! only supports WLM, nothing else.

If it's the appearance you dislike, have you tried using a skin?
