O.P. Custom Emoticon bug.
After updating to the most recent version of Live Messenger, there is a bug with the custom emoticons. Not the ones you save yourself, but the fancier ones that replace the default ones. I switched between the Zero-G and GI Joe skins, and both show the same problem.

The screen shot shows my problem, and the emoticons that are supposed to come up are: :@ :( :)

It also shows my Windows Live Version and Plus! Version.

Does the problem occur if you use NO skin?

I don't see the options button to use the custom default emoticons with no skin enabled, so I can't say either way.

So you're having problems with the default emoticons with the skin - they're corrupted.

Try removing the skin, restarting WLM, then downloading and importing the skin again. That should fix it.

Also there should be an option to turn of the custom default emoticons, on your contacts list if you click the Plus! icon :plus4: > Messenger Skin > Skin Options.

I am unable to enable custom default emoticons with no skin enabled. I removed and re-imported the skin and I'm still having problems. It has to be a problem with the new messenger since it started right after I updated.

Is there a way to downgrade to the previous version?

Yes, here.

I'll test for myself, then report back. (Y)

Edit: Confirmed.

But here's how to fix it..

I've PM'd the skin creator, Willz.

RE: Custom Emoticon bug.
I have been alerted on the issue and the bug occurs only in the latest patch to Messenger 9, which I did not know existed until now.

Basically it occurs because they have removed the IM emoticons altogether so what you are seeing is some bad emoticon sizing calculation done by messenger.

I'll issue a fix for this when I can. For now just disable the feature via the option panel as outlined in the previous post.
