every time i attempt to sign in, this error message comes up twice and then WLM fails to sign in

I've tried some help topics from various different sites, even completely un-installing Windows Live and then a fresh re-install - but still nothing

I'm getting incredibly frustrated with this now - Can anyone help? or send me a link to an older version of messenger or something?

I was getting this message as well the other day and I decided to update to the latest version which appeared to solve the problem.

Is Windows Live Messenger set to run in compatibility mode?

What version of Windows and WLM are you using?

how do i check that?

I'm using windows xp and the latest version of WLM, as i updated it recently

Right-click the Messenger shortcut (Desktop, Start Menu, wherever) > Properties > Compatibility.  Make sure "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" is unchecked.
