webcam issues...

O.P. Huh?  webcam issues...
i have found that i am now unable to just view and send webcam invites on their own, i have to do a "video call."
When sending video call invites, the contact accepts them and i am able to see my webcam screen in the messenger window and only an advert where the contacts webcam should appear. underneath that, its says "waiting for contact"
This is the same for the contact; they can see themselves and just shows an advert where my webcam should appear claiming to be "waiting for contact" when we have both accepted the invites.

How can i get around this problem...

If you're having problems with the new version/build, you can follow these instructions to install the slightly older build which allows individual webcam, at least until WLM 2011 comes out...

quote:
Start > (In XP, click Run) > Type in the following & press enter:
msiexec /x {B57EAFF2-D6EE-4C6C-9175-ED9F17BFC1BC}
Follow instructions to uninstall WLM.

Then download and install this version:

But otherwise all I can recommend is that you make sure no software/programs could be causing conflict, which may not be allowing the webcam connection to go through such as firewall, anti-virus or internet security.

That's correct, you can see Jonathan Kay's post about it here.

The upside is that the video quality is much better, according to mynetx.

I believe that that rumour is in fact true and it doesn't support webcam viewing any more... I think it may still work if u downgrade your messenger until they decide to enforce a compulsory update thus not allowing you to login until updating messenger

Basically, they've screwed over a what once was decent....
Fixed something which wasn't even broken...... :@

It's not a rumour, it's confirmed.

As has been explained, the reason for it isn't to "fix" anything, it's to give higher quality video.  If you want to view someone without them viewing your camera, then unplug/deselect your camera.

Using an old version of Messenger is NOT recommended and may end up causing further problems, or incompatibilities when trying to use features with people on the latest version.

The easiest way is to just accept that it's gone and get used to it and enjoy the higher quality video that WLM 2011 will bring....longing after a removed feature won't get you anywhere ;)
