O.P. WLM 2011 name change delay.
As people already know in WLM 2011 you aren't able to set personal nicknames, but use your 'real' name instead.

I have myself on my contact list and I assume that whenever I change my name, the contact (myself) will follow the change of name I input.

(Not using my real name), but if my name were John Smith and I changed it in the preferences to John S. it would not appear on the contact. It would remain as 'John Smith'.

Hello xho,

Contacts and their details are cached on your disk and only updated as needed. You may empty your local contacts cache to force Messenger to resync the contact details.

The main issue I've personally noticed with something relatively close to that is the fact that if you had your nickname pre-WLM2011 installation set to something like "My cat is awesome", then went to WLM2011 where your name instantly becomes your display name, to those still using older version of Messenger, they still see "My cat is awesome", which ultimately is a redundant nickname due to downloading the latest version.
