O.P. Huh?  500MHz processor with 640MB RAM?
Hello, recently my MSN Messenger 7.5 stopped working.  Now I can't use my WEBCAM for international family chat.

What version of MSN can I use for my old computer of 500MHz processor and 640MB of RAM.  Asking b/c I can't afford a new computer just for video chating and I have far too many programs I would lose as well.

Is there some king of hack I could use that would let me keep an older version with smaller system requirements?  Maybe version 8.5 has these lower system requirements?

Thanks

On such a bad computer, I think running Pidgin on a small Linux distro would be your best option.

not yet i dont think it does, i think it only does it on 2 or 3 protocols  at the moment

http://developer.pidgin.im/query?group=status&milestone=2.7.10

http://developer.pidgin.im/query?group=status&mil...+and+Video+Support

most of the Video/Audio have been implemented its just adding it to a particular Pidgin Build

its the same as " Empathy " http://live.gnome.org/Empathy which uses a different Framework than pidgin

Would be nice if these video chats used up smaller resources instead of being the resource pigs that they are.  Hopefully, soon GOOGLE will launch their video chat, not to mention a new OS as well.

I tried all the hack/tricks I know about with MSN 8.5, but still no cam/video.  Hate having to rely on koowy.com but that is currently my only option.(N)

I've video chatted via Gmail's web client...no clue how resource-intensive it was though.

Either try Windows Live Messenger 2009:
http://explore.live.com/windows-live-Messenger-XP
(although I doubt it will run smoothly on your machine, if at all)

And if that fails, you can use MSN Messenger 7.0.0820:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.asp...-9904-9505f47bed45

These are you only two options in regards to using Messenger on your machine. Otherwise, you either need to upgrade your PC, or switch to another IM client which is compatible with your system.

Note that support for MSN Messenger 7.5 and 8.0 to 8.5 was dropped a long while ago due to some security issues in it.
