O.P. no sound when contacts comes online
Hello,

I seems to have a problem when people come online I don't get any sound alert. I checked my settings in wlm 2011 and the option to enable 'no sounds' is off. When I select a sound manual to test it I can hear it. I removed, rebooted and reinstalled wlm 2011 and the new plus5 version. But still doesn't seem to work.

Anyone know what the problem could be?

Thank you very much.

Is your System Sounds volume high enough?

To check, right click the Speaker icon (Volume Control) in your Notification Area (also known as Tray bar) and select "Open Volume Mixer."

The Windows Live Messenger 2011 alerts are filed under "System Sounds," while when you play them manually, they play using the general volume settings.

I Windows Live Messenger 2011 Options > Alerts,
did you enable the correct alert triggers?

I Windows Live Messenger 2011 Options > Sounds,
have you selected the "Default" sound? Even when "No Sounds" option is turned off, you can still manually disable sounds for certain alerts in that menu as well, you may want to check.

In Messenger Plus! Preferences & Options > Features > Alerts,
You also have the option to trigger a pop-up with (or without) a sound alert. You may want to try and set one there as well, to see if that fixes the problem.

I have this opened all my sounds are active, Skype, speakers, system sounds.

I enabled all the alerts, also the one for when someone comes online.

I have set for all options default sound, new person coming on-line, e-mail. chat IM,... all are enabled.

.

Now this option I don't seem to see under features. I have messenger lock, quick text, quick icons, accept requests, multi accounts, event notifications ( I presume you mean this?) Personalized Status and tabbed chats.

Yes, sorry, it was a loose translation from my Dutch version of Messenger Plus!

Would this fix the problem , if at least for now?

I've noted that even with my volume high, the default Alert sound in Windows Live Messenger 2011 is extremely low.

Last thing I can think of right now... did you try a different sound than the default one?

Hope this helps, if not, then I'm sorry.

Veel success! :)

Blessedguy says:

By default, sounds won't play when your status is set to busy.

Maybe this helps. :p

Just to be clear: You are talking about the sounds options from Live Messenger itself, right? Does this issue disappear when you uninstall Messenger Plus!? If not, this thread is in the wrong section. Unless you are talking about Plus! event notifications.
Finish the problem
