RE: Mcafee
I must admit Cookie I feel his pain it is bludy annoying espcially on a p3 which can't take many programs starting up at the same time and I don't need splash screens to add to that aswell. I can see it is running as the McAfee icon is red in the system tray (if it wasn't it would be black 8-).) Last time I checked I don't think you could turn the spalsh off.:(

RE: Mcafee
In fact, after a simple google search ("splash screen" "security center" "mcafee") here is the solution:

** If you're familiar with the registry editor:

in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run add the parameter /nosplash after the startup line of mcagent.exe.

** If you're not familiar with the registry editor:

Be very carefully and don't do anything else then described here:
1) Go to Start > Run
2) Type in regedit and press enter.
3) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
4) There you'll see a list of programs which start up when you boot up Windows. Double-click on MCAgentExe.
5) Add the parameter /nosplash to the end of the shown string, so you will get something like:
"c:\program files\mcafee.com\agent\mcagent.exe" /nosplash
6) Close the Registry Editor and reboot your PC.

EDIT: this is even listed on the McAfee help pages as well!

Meh, I don't think they'll care...it's a splash screen just to say it's loading, not a big deal. I'm surprised they tell people to do stuff in the registry to get rid of it, tbh...I'd have thought they'd have made an option

It takes around 7000k of memory when it's loaded...and since you have that computer connected to the internet I'd do it...
