RE: Virus when clicking the toast
That file has been associated with a password stealing trojan. If that is the case, deleting that one file is not sufficient. Check for the existence of the following CLSID: C41A1C0E-EA6C-11D4-B1B8-444553540000 http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums...

RE: Congratulations Patchou on becoming an MVP!
I believe that is called "shutting the door after the horse has bolted". His status can be changed back to Active, or Patchou can resign as a director and come back again, at any time. The fact remains he is there.

This *may* work... http://www3.telus.net/agentsmith/articles/article1 .html Otherwise, there is a key combo for the dreaded black screen after flashing the ASUS bios (in cases where the PC isn't actually dead, but is actually waiting for some command...

RE: Petition to save Messenger Plus!
See above. If nobody installs the sponsor, or if they remove it the first chance they get, Patchou doesn't get an income anyway.

RE: Weird Popups
But... I thought... MP's sponsor program doesn't allow things like 'adult finder' and 'adult meeting' - being family friendly and all that.

You have disabled all script error options? Update your scripting engine and if you have Office installed, disable loading of MDM.EXE

RE: Microsoft Forces SP2 download
You want choice? Turn off automatic updates, or set it to download but not install and then choose 'custom install' to pick and choose what you want. Problem solved.

RE: [split: possible browser debate?] IE Home Page
Everything? Where's your sense of adventure? ;) Firefox = flavour of the month = popular = boring. Give the other browsers a try - they're worth the experience. Deepnet is completely safe (immune to ActiveX) and Kopassa, though unstable on some sy...

RE: [split: possible browser debate?] IE Home Page
Crazybroswer? <yawn> Try Deepnet (with P2P and RSS built in), or if you want something outside of the square, try Kopassa.

Hmm, nobody has mentioned that the MP Sponsor Program should NOT be resetting your home page every time you restart. Expected behaviour is for the change of home page to stay, and a second blue toolbar, the Passthrough toolbar appearing. Did a secon...

Did you disable McAfee before installing XP SP2, that is turn McAfee off, make sure that it is set not to restart automatically, and then rebooted before installing SP2?

RE: Windows firewall [sp2]
Do not depend on the Windows Firewall. It is a 'stateful' firewall that only protects from *incoming, unsolicited* connections. If your network (or computer) is compromised it will not protect you or prevent data from going out. That being said, ...

RE: problem cant be sloved my self
Shut down Messenger. Control Panel --> Display --> Appearance. Apply any default Windows theme. Test. If that doesn't work, try applying a different font instead of Verdana. To test if Verdana is corrupt, find the font in your ..\font\ folder....

You can temporarily stop UPNP (universal plug n play) - a service accessible via control panel, administrative tools, services. That will prevent XP from installing the software automatically.
