The 'problem' is that many people complain in the wrong places (eg: forums, comments on blogs, etc instead of posting a message to Micosoft's feedback sites)

With some patching (polygamy) and doing some trickery, you can install to versions side by side though... But yeah, it is not recommended or officially supported.

That is what your personal message is, it simply got another name but the functionality is exactly the same. In WLM 2009 you also "shared something" with your personal message to others.
