Thanks for that, for some reason it had changed to 0 for me as well (btw, I am using 8.5, not 8.1, for those people who commented about that earlier).  I wonder why this happened....

it changes back to 0 when you start messenger up again.

guess the server is telling plus to change it to 0, when messenger starts up.

Contest checks a remote file at WLM startup to see if the contest is still active. If it isn't it will automatically remove the contest icon. I guess for some reason the server is reporting the contest is over or not responding properly at all so it assumes the contest is over. Either way something is wrong, because i doubt Patchou will end the contest prematurely without notifying about it. Mailed him.

You can change the registry key to 1, but apparently Plus! will set it back to 0 on WLM startup.

Hope it will be fixed soon and all contest buttons can be remotely re-activated.

I changed it to 1 then restarted msn. Still no button.

wlm crashed and then the button disappeared for me aswell
