O.P. Boot.ini Problem - Help ASAP
I was shutting down my computer, but when it said "Saving your settings", it froze. This happens when I have Windows Defender running, and this is normal, so I pressed the handy restart button. When Windows started up, it checked the disk, and said that boot.ini was invalid (or something) and it had to be truncated - I've seen this message enough to know that that means "yeah, we just deleted it". After that, Windows started fine.
So now, I have no boot.ini file, which I'm pretty sure I need to boot. I'm scared to restart just in case Windows craps out without it.
When I go to System Properties, Advanced tab, Startup and Recovery Settings, it gives me this message:
The C:\boot.ini file cannot be opened. Operating System and Timeout settings can not be changed.
I googled that, but the only thing that comes up is something about Windows Server 2003, which I don't have (I've got XP). Can anyone recommend any help? It would be much appreciated.
